Mobile phone provides as a medium of communication that has found enthusiastic and nearly universal adoption globally in both developed and developing nations. India has the second highest mobile connection in the world after China, with more than 90 connections per 100 people. Mobile phones, in the last decade, have evolved from a primary tool of interpersonal communication to that facilitating group communication. This transformation has been enabled by the integration of mobile internet facilities and exponential increase in the computing power of mobile phones, converting them into smartphones. A multitude of leisure activities drive smartphones usage, which include mobile gaming, streaming music, and photo and video sharing on social networks like Facebook, Twitter, WhatsApp, Instagram, etc.
Technological addiction is a form of nonsubstance addiction that has been previously defined as the compulsion by an individual to engage in some specific activity despite harmful consequences as deemed by the use himself/herself to his/her individual health, mental state, or social life. Mobile phone usage characterized by addiction-like behavior represents a specific form of technological addiction. In this regard, nomophobia is a relate phenomenon.
WHAT IS NOMOPHOBIA?
NOMOPHOBIA refers to discomfort, anxiety, nervousness, or anguish caused by being out of contact with mobile phone and associated technology.

- Repeated checking of the mobile screen for notification

EFFECTS OF NOMOPHOBIA
A Study found that 40% of the students of a medical college in Delhi were nomophobic, The prevalence is higher among females than males.
- Worsening of Sleep quality: Nomophobia causes worsening of sleep quality which in turn causes them to feel tired after waking up. Some also check their notifications while resting or in light sleep.
- Lack of concentration: Nomophobics report a lack of concentration during classes due to repeated checking of the mobile phone. This affects their studying and their performances in exam.
- Road safety: Youngster's impulsive use of mobile phones while walking or crossing the roads, puts their road safety at a great risk. Many accidents of walkers is due to their lack of focus on the roads and vehicles and most common cause of this is the use of mobile phone on the roads.
- Impulsive behaviour: The increased use of social media has made the users way more impulsive. The risks the safety of a nomophobic, because of their heightened impulsivity.
- Reduced tolerance and patience: In this age of 5G with super high speed internet, the patience level of mobile phone users has hit pit bottom.
