Personality Development - #2 Foundation

INTRO TO PERSONALITY DEVELOPMENT #2

Hello Beautiful People,

In previous post, we had read about personality development- what it is, Its characters and, all that.

Today, We are going to read the foundation of Personality and Personalities of Few Great Peoples.

So Let's Begin our today's Reading...

FOUNDATION OF PERSONALITY

All the things in life are based on a foundation. For example, a tree has roots and every house has a base. Even humans have a spine or backbone. Similarly, our personality has a chief element even though it may depend on many other things. A polished diamond emits many colors but its chief element is carbon.

You probably know that carbon is not just the chief element of the diamond; it is also the chief element for coal. Even though they both share the same chief element, a diamond cannot be called a coal like a coal cannot be called a diamond.

The lesson I'm trying to give here is that if we understand the chief elements of personality which help to create, improve and develop it further, then undoubtedly anybody's personality can undergo a positive change.

Let us now get familiar with the two most important elements of Personality upon which depends its whole structure.

(1)    BE YOURSELF

This sub-heading may seem a little vague (unclear) to you, but not so much that you wouldn't understand. Personality is a natural feeling. When you become famous and successful, people will mimic small things about you.

However, when we are trying to improve upon ourselves, we have certain role models or people with an ideal personality we look up to. We may feel, "If I have to be influential and successful, I have to be like my role model."

In case you have also adopted a role model and are thinking along these lines, it may be a natural tendency but I don't approve of it.

Generally, we only see superficial things about our role models such as the clothes they wear, how they walk and speak, their diet and means of entertainment, even the kind of friends they have, etc.

Since we can see these things and they are obvious, we accept them readily.

Generally, it is expected that the President of the country would have his hair neatly trimmed. Our former President Kalam has long hair, even our prime minister Narendra Modi has also a long beard.

Therefore, nobody should be under the false impression that personality is related to the exterior self of a person. In fact, when you suppress your own style to adopt someone else's, you are declaring that there is no originality in you.

Whoever you are, and however you are - you are UNIQUE. There is no other person like you on this planet. Your height, build and looks were given to you by Nature. So there is nothing in your hands, so why have any regrets? You should enjoy your Unique style and your personality.

Personality of Renowned Singer Talat Mahmud

Once, in the early days of his career when Talat was a struggling singer in Mumbai, musician Anil Biswas gave him the opportunity to sing a song. When Talat came to record the song, he tried his best to hide the quiver in his voice. When the recording started, Biswas was upset after listening to Talat's voice. After he questioned Talat, he go the answer, "I'm disturbed by my quivering voice, and it spoils my singing. It is only after a lot of practice that I could get rid of it." Biswas replied, "Go and get the tremble in your voice back, then only I will record your song. Remember that a quivering voice is your identity."

So, The first line in the triangle of personality development is precisely this - I will be myself. If you do not do this, someday you will hear the famous proverb, "the crow imitated the swan's gait, and even forgot his own walk." It is easy to walk your own; it doesn't require any extra effort or alertness on your part.

Just remember this line 'There is no merit in being greater than someone else. True greatness lies in being a better version of your previous self.'

(2)    POWER OF YOUR THOUGHTS

Our actions depend mainly on two things - the body and our thoughts. The body moves, and the thoughts make it move. Thoughts drive the vehicle of your body. But since they are not visible on the driving seat, people assume it's the body doing the driving on its own. Thoughts are not just the center of our body, but also responsible for most of our actions in life. We can call thoughts our "powerhouse". If you want, you can examine this right now.

If you think about someone with anger, within a minute you can sense the changes in your body. Suddenly, your eyes will turn scarlet with violent anger. You will feel hot, your hands will shiver and your heart won't be at peace. You will also become disinterested in the things around you.

We cannot see thoughts, but whatever we see happening around us is by the thoughts behind those occurrences. The room that you are sitting in to study this blog must have appeared as a thought to someone.

So First comes the thought, followed by action. If you decide not to read this blog any further, the thought that 'I don't want to read any further' should come to your mind first.

This process runs in the following manner - First,  a thought enters our mind. Let us say, you had the following thought, 'I want to be an engineer.' For your convenience, you can even call this thought a desire. Desire is also a form of thought. Whatever the mind envisages, it is called a thought. The feelings that surface in the heart are called desires.

If the thought of becoming an engineer has come to your mind, what will you do? Obviously, you will start working to achieve that goal. You will figure out how to be an engineer. Then, you will take admission to an engineering college and buy books related to your studies. It is not possible that you want to become an engineer but you take admission in a medical college and read books on economics and history.

Personality of Abdul Kalam

There were many faces behind the missile man of India, a prolific poet, sensitive human being, a patriot Indian who always thought that unless my motherland becomes a nuclear Nation, it would not enjoy the respect in the league of Nations of the World and a humble man with a child-like curiosity who would play with kids at Rashtrapati Bhavan during morning walk forgetting that he is head of a state.

Bharat Ratna APJ Abdul Kalam brought a blue revolution by heading integrated guided missile development program but very few know that he used to play Rudra veena(similar like a sitar) at an ease In one of his poems Kalam refers to Agni missile, the ICBM intercontinental ballistic missile which has a range of 2500 miles, as his son and writes, 'my parents were sad when I decided against marrying, they were worried as to their family name would not be continued but today when Agni has hit the target at 2500 Kms in sea, I am remembered of my parents. If they would have been alive, they would have been so happy to see that their grand-son (Agni) is so powerful.'

Abdul Kalam was one of the great personalities.
